Breakthrough In JPEG Compression

The makers of Stuffit have written a program that compresses JPG's by 30% that is by doing a lossless compression over a JPG file. They plan a new Stuffit Image Format (SIF). Here is the Whitepaper.
With companies coming up with higher storage space I wonder how much of a use is compression for Images atleast..

hmm .. imho.. compression is going to be persued till network banwidth stops being a concern .. sort of like memory i guess .. some day soon we will be talking of giga .. let me kick that up a notch .. terabytes of bandwidth !! .. and then spending money on researching better compression wont make any sense. Till then "Come on in SIFs !"
